onefootonestep: thank you for the blog suggestion! She’s got some great style inspiration :) I’m already feeling inspired!
josethompson: when I used to work in retail, I was always frustrated by the fact that there were no facilities where I could shower if I wanted to run commute. I find your boss kind of has the wrong view of things. You install a shower and you might encourage more folks to start run or bike commuting. It’s not the other way around.
trish-runs-the-world-away: I find blazers so hard to find - ones that fit right at least! I ordered one on eBay not long ago and I’m waiting for it to arrive by mail. If it fits properly, I’ll be ordering several more in all the colours of the rainbow because it was really not expensive compared to what I keep seeing in stores. The problem is that I’m so short, with short arms, so the arms on blazers look stupid on me. I ended up buying the blazer on eBay because they’re from Korea and the measurements are naturally made smaller, I figured they might work better. Fingers crossed! Dresses for sure! I have so many and they are easy to pack and wear without a fuss. And definitely legging pants. I have many of those. Of course, I wear tunics to cover my bum and I buy high-quality ones!
usualchatter: My previous work-place was a long run-commute, I think about 10 miles. I did it a few times, but it was do-able on a daily basis. Now it will finally be do-able. I’m very lucky to have showers available where I’ll be working.
First off. Sending good vibes to everyone running Boston today!
Second. My knee is much better!!!
I ran twice this weekend with Zoe. I started both runs just thinking I would go for 15 minutes to see how things went with the knee and ended up sort of getting lost in the run. That’s obviously a good sign.
The bad part of it is that my training was royally effed up when I smacked my knee. My suspicion is that by hurting my knee in the same place twice I ended up with some time of inflammation / bursitis and some kind of fluid build up. But I’m just guessing and pretending to know what happened. Anyhow, I ended up with a month of shitty training after a whole lot of super consistent training in the really tough winter. So I’m really disappointed. I’m also really freaking out. This week I’m going to get back on track. I’m just terrified of what’s going to happen in the next few weeks. If I can get in two quality long runs before race day, then I think I’ll feel a bit more relaxed about things. I don’t have a goal anymore obviously.
And now I’ll stop thinking about it before I give myself an ulcer.
The rest of the summer will be devoted to triathlon / 5K training.
I’m contemplating training for a 12 HR indoor track ultra in September but I’ll see how things go with my new job before I decide on that. If I can manage the job and training (in the summer heat) maybe I’ll sign up.
My new goal is really to re-build to a 50K now that I am on migraine medication that is working phenomenally well. I have almost no lost training days to headaches and migraines now. It’s dramatically reduced. I used to lose weeks of training to migraines. Now I’m not faced with that problem anymore. It’s amazing. I’m honestly so lucky to have found a medication that works for me. I know a lot of people struggle to find the right kind. I think with that change, I can really train a lot harder, more consistently and better than I ever have before. In the fall my school course-load will be lower than normal because it will be my final full-year and I’ve had to spread things out because of the courses being offered in specific time slots. It leaves me with plenty of time for training and a part-time job. Fingers crossed the winter doesn’t punch us in the face though!
And that’s enough of me talking out loud.
Today is a rest day. More ice on the knee. Going to get more coffee and study. Cannot wait till exams are over and done with!
Beautiful day for a run with Zoe-pop today. Knee felt much better. Still a bit weird but no pain during or after. That’s good right?? More ice today. I’m sure I still need to see someone about it but I think it’s okay to run on. Time for coffee and cloudberry compote. #run #runblr #ontherun
