Mini running helicopter: Joggobot

Has anyone else seen the article on the Runnersworld website yet?

http://rwdaily.runnersworld.com/2012/06/a-drone-for-joggers.html

It talks about this flying robot thingy - I’m so articulate (I blame my excitement) - that is being developed at the moment.

And let me just sum it up by saying it looksawesome. If anything, the mere fact that it’s a flying robot makes it cool. I want a flying robot that flies near my while I run. It’ll make all the other runners so jealous. I will call it Pickle, or something else that sounds adorable, so that it sounds cute and people will want to see it and run near it, but it will then shoot my competitors in their kneecaps with its efficient laser beams.

Oh wait. That’s not what the guy in the video describes?

My bad.

Restraint

Try not to race yourself in training.

Racing is for race day.

Your training runs are for training. If you are constantly trying to one-up yourself, what’s left in the tank for your goal race?

The runs where you end up being slower then end up zapping your confidence.

Pace is relative. Something that is easy to know, easy to learn but hard to remember. Everything has an effect on your rate of perceived exertion; sleep, stress, what you ate last night, your mood, etc. What felt like a breeze last week may just take everything you have this week. Understand this and remember this and you’ll find yourself much more confident.

Try running without a watch.

It’s liberating and reveals a love of running that goes deeper than the numbers. If all you care about are the numbers, then you will inevitably be disappointed at some point. Numbers change as we age. But the feelings remain the same.

How you feel when you run is far more complex than what a set of numbers can tell you. The information is useful, of course. But it can be detrimental if taken too seriously, if obssessed over.
